If you would like to get fit and fancy taking up running but are just too nervous to take those first steps on your own, then the Seaford Striders might just have the answer. This small, friendly club has runners of all abilities and they are delighted to announce that they will shortly be widening their scope and forming a ‘couch to 5k’ group.
There will be a dedicated leader and new members will be guided slowly through the NHS plan, which is designed to get just about anyone off the couch and running 5km in a matter of months. Members will start gently and there will be plenty of built-in rest stops.
If you would like to give this a try, put on your trainers and come along. The group will commence on Wednesday, 22 March and they will continue to meet every Wednesday at 7pm in the Café area at the Downs Leisure Centre, Sutton Road, Seaford, BN25 4QW. All abilities welcome!
Hi. How much would it be to join the couch to 5k group? Love this idea!
Thanks Caroline. It’s the same as joining the club, £16 for an adult, with a reduced rate of £8.00 for unemployed or retired people. But if you want to come and try us out before you decide, please do.
Really interested, Is that £16 a week ?
Gosh, no Stacey, that’s the annual membership!
I’m 67 and have never run but would like to try!!!!! I do walk about 4/ 5 miles per day
Please do join us and try it, Sandra. if you’re walking that sort of distance regularly, you should be fine
I’m interested. Could you let me know when this is starting. Thanks.
On Wednesday 22 March, for nine weeks
I might be interested … do we have to book or just turn up?
No, just turn up ready to run (or walk-run, we won’t push too hard at first)
really interested but feeling very nervous already. I’ve never run and not sure I know how to!
No need to feel nervous – there will be lots of walking and rest stops built in. All abilities welcome!
Can children join? If so how much please?
Hoping to try as a family Or at least try lol
Hi Sarah, thanks for your comment. We’re keeping the group to adults only for now, but we do have our Juniors meet each Wednesday at 5.55pm for 6pm. The first Couch to 5k session is free, after that to join the club costs £16 for the year. Hope that helps, just let us know if you need any further info.
Hi, I’m pretty fit go to the gym, have ran a couple of 5k, last year, and do run a bit now. But not good enough to do 6miles with the ordinary group I feel. Is this new venture for me ???
I’d say so, Sharon. We’ll take it very easy at the start, but more experienced runners would still find it valuable.
